FAQ

Do you have any questions?

Absolutely! If you’re traveling on your own, you’re more than welcome to join one of our scheduled group departures. To ensure a more personal and immersive experience, our groups are limited to a maximum of eight travelers.

Looking for different travel dates? We can also create a custom trip based on your preferred schedule and publish it on our website so other like-minded adventurers have the opportunity to join.

Our standard pricing is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers should be comfortable sharing a room or tent with another guest of the same gender. If you prefer additional privacy, a single room may be available for an extra charge, depending on the itinerary and accommodation options.

For those who enjoy exploring independently, we also offer self-guided adventures. We take care of all the planning—including transportation, accommodations, and meals—so you can focus on discovering each destination at your own pace.

Your next adventure starts whenever you’re ready!

Patagonia is famous for its ever-changing weather, where sunshine, wind, rain, and even snow can all occur within the same day. The key to staying comfortable is dressing in layers, allowing you to easily adapt to changing conditions throughout your adventure.

We recommend bringing clothing that keeps you warm, dry, and protected during the day, along with a fresh set of clothes for the evening. Some essential items include:

  • Moisture-wicking base layers made of merino wool or synthetic fabrics.

  • A fleece or insulated mid-layer for added warmth.

  • A waterproof and windproof outer jacket.

  • Lightweight, quick-drying hiking pants (jeans are not recommended).

  • Thermal leggings, a down jacket, hat, sunglasses, gloves, comfortable underwear, and several pairs of hiking socks to help prevent blisters.

Packing wisely will ensure you’re prepared for every trail, viewpoint, and changing forecast, so you can focus on enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences that Patagonia has to offer.

We offer several convenient payment options, including bank transfers, direct deposits into our Chilean bank account, and secure online credit card payments. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

Patagonia is well known for its unpredictable climate, where sunshine, strong winds, rain, and even snow can all occur within a single day. Because conditions change quickly, it’s always best to be prepared for a variety of weather throughout your journey.

From October to April, daytime temperatures typically range between 18–20°C (64–68°F), while evenings usually cool to around 8–12°C (46–54°F). During the peak of summer, daylight stretches well into the evening, with nearly 17 hours of daylight around the December solstice, giving you plenty of time to enjoy outdoor adventures.

Winter offers a different but equally spectacular experience. Although temperatures are lower and snowfall is more frequent, the winds are generally lighter and the weather tends to be more stable. Average daytime temperatures range from 14–16°C (57–61°F), while nighttime temperatures commonly drop to 3–4°C (37–39°F).

No matter the season, dressing in layers is the best way to stay comfortable and make the most of Patagonia’s ever-changing landscapes.

Citizens of most countries can visit Chile for tourism without obtaining a visa in advance and are permitted to stay for up to 90 days. Upon arrival, immigration authorities will issue a Tourist Card (PDI card), which should be kept safe throughout your trip, as it must be presented when leaving the country and may also be required to access certain travel benefits.

Tourist Visa Requirements

Travelers from countries such as the United States, Canada, the European Union, and many Latin American nations generally do not need a tourist visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, entry requirements may change, so we recommend checking the latest regulations before traveling.

Tourist Card (PDI)

When you enter Chile, you will receive a Tourist Card, an important immigration document that must be retained during your stay. Besides being required upon departure, it is also necessary if you wish to qualify for accommodation tax benefits.

19% VAT Exemption on Accommodations

International visitors may be eligible for an exemption from Chile’s 19% Value Added Tax (VAT) on hotel stays if they meet the following conditions:

  • Present a valid Tourist Card (PDI).

  • Pay for the accommodation using foreign currency or a credit card issued outside Chile.

  • Stay at a hotel that is officially registered to provide the VAT exemption.

Please note that payments made in Chilean pesos or accommodations at properties not authorized to offer the exemption will be subject to the standard 19% VAT.

Special Requirement for Australian Citizens

Australian passport holders are required to obtain an eVisa before traveling to Chile. We recommend applying well in advance of your departure to ensure a smooth entry process.

Experienced hikers looking for a challenge will appreciate iconic routes such as the W Trek and the O Circuit, while those seeking a more relaxed adventure may enjoy experiences like Puma Tracking.

Our horseback riding excursions typically involve 4 to 6 hours in the saddle each day, making them ideal for guests with previous riding experience. Kayaking programs, on the other hand, are beginner-friendly and are led by certified professional guides who provide instruction and support throughout the journey.

We also offer multi-activity adventures, including programs such as W Fast Track and W Plus, which combine hiking with comfortable stays in hotels and our Riverside Camp. We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance before visiting Patagonia. Its remote landscapes and ever-changing weather make it important to be protected against unexpected situations such as medical emergencies, trip interruptions, delays, lost baggage, or personal accidents.

As part of the booking process, we’ll ask you to provide your travel insurance information along with an emergency contact, ensuring we’re prepared to assist you if needed.

If you haven’t arranged coverage yet, we recommend considering trusted providers such as:

  • World Nomads

  • Global Rescue

Travel with confidence, knowing you’re prepared for whatever your Patagonia adventure may bring.

Your safety and communication are important to us, especially when exploring Patagonia’s remote wilderness. Our guides and support vehicles are equipped with VHF radios, enabling continuous communication with our operations team and local emergency services whenever necessary.

Several of the main refugios and campsites within Torres del Paine National Park—including Paine Grande, Los Cuernos, Grey, and the Las Torres (Central) sector—offer Wi-Fi services, although availability may vary and an additional fee often applies. In more isolated areas where cellular coverage is unavailable, our team carries a satellite communication device that provides two-way messaging and emergency SOS capability, ensuring a reliable means of communication throughout your adventure.

We recommend arriving at least one day before your adventure begins. This allows you to attend the pre-trip briefing with our team, where we’ll review your itinerary, equipment, and all the important details to ensure you’re fully prepared for the journey ahead.

If your travel plans are flexible, consider extending your stay by an extra day or two after your program. It’s a great opportunity to discover even more of Patagonia through optional experiences such as glacier kayaking, horseback riding, wildlife excursions to spot humpback whales or king penguins, or our popular Puma Tracking adventure.

Our Travel Specialists will be happy to help you customize your itinerary and make the most of your time in Patagonia.

During our excursions, drinking water is often sourced directly from Patagonia’s rivers and mountain streams. In Torres del Paine National Park, this glacial water is exceptionally pure and is generally considered safe to drink. Over the years, our guests have enjoyed it without experiencing any related health issues.

If you prefer additional peace of mind or have a sensitive stomach, you’re welcome to bring your own water purification tablets or another preferred water treatment method for personal use.

Of course! If you would like to travel only with your family, friends, or chosen group, we can arrange a private departure designed around your preferences. Whether you have specific travel dates in mind or want a fully tailored itinerary, our team can create a unique experience just for you.

(Please note: Private departures with fewer than 8 travelers may require an additional fee.)
